Two Brothers Accused Of Robbing Long Island Gas Station

Two brothers have been apprehended after police say they robbed a Long Island gas station overnight.

The incident happened in Lake Grove at QuickChek at 2686 Middle Country Road, at around 11:35 p.m. Thursday, April 14, according to Suffolk County Police.

Matthew Tait, age 26, and William Tait, age 27, both of Centereach, entered QuickChek, and Matthew displayed what appeared to be a handgun while William went behind the counter and forced the clerk to open the register, according to police. 

The two men stole cash, cigarettes and assorted merchandise, and then fled on foot, police said.

Officers from the Fourth Precinct, Sixth Precinct, Aviation Section and Canine Section responded and located the suspects in Centereach, where a gun and proceeds from the robbery were recovered, said police.

The two were each charged with first-degree robbery and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday, April 15.
